Lady Une (Complete)
« Thread started on: Nov 30th, 2006, 10:40pm » |

Debut: MTAC Prime- Saturday cosplay, costume contest and any formal event thereafter. 1. Lady Une of Gundam Wing. Oz Colonel, assassin, aide to Treize. 2. Done as part of a duo of costumes, with Trieze. 3. I haven't started on this one, thanks to the wonders of finals and graduation, so no time yet. 4. Oh great Hanthingy's, may we worship at your alter of fabric and offer up our prayers that you still have the fabric that matches Treize's. 5. Most of the construction will be done by me. Two things I will need help with though, will be A) The Wig: I've spoken to Sweet Paradox about it, but haven't gotten a price estimate yet. Hence the detail pictures of her head and hair. So long as it's alright by her, I'd like to get her to do the wig, I'm not good with them. B) The OZ beltbuckle. I don't know how to make them, so I'll have to get them commissioned, preferably from someone here. I'll need two, one for Une, and a matching one for Treize. 6. Current cost: $57.64 Vest material, lining material for vest, gold cord trim, shoulder fringe, mcCalls pattern and Vogue pattern) PS. Those vogue patterns? they're bloody expensive! 7. This uniform only requires 16 silver buttons. Less than Treize's 44, but still painful to think about getting them all.
not sure how I'm going to do the boots. I'm gonna see if I can find a pair that are a close proximity, but I doubt I'll be able to do them. Anyone have any suggestions?
The neatest thing about this costume, as part of the pair, is that Andrew and I both loved GW when we were younger. We both adored the other's respective characters. And now we're getting to cosplay them. Kinda a sentimental stupid thing, but I think it's kinda neat that we get to play our favorite couple, and when we decided on it, we weren't even thinking of going out with each other.
I'm really looking forward to playing her, she's snarky, authoratative and assertive. It'll be a blast playing her!

(dances)
Alright! Tomorrow, I intend to go to Hanthingy's in Cool Springs to get my material for Une.
During the summer when I got the material for Treize, they had burgandy fabric that matched his perfectly, but I didn't have the money for it at the time.
I'm hoping (though not expecting) they'll have the fabric still, or have gotten new shipments of it. It's a pretty standard fabric, so hopefully that one time wasn't a fluke and never to be repeated.
We'll see. update on it tomorrow.

Alright. Changed the info on how much the costume has cost.
Went today to buy fabric. I looked and found the same bolt of suraline that I used for Treize, but the Cranberry fabric for Une was gone. I asked the owner about when they might get some in again and he told me that the manufacturer isn't going to put out anymore suraline. They're blending it with gaberdine and making a finer textured slightly more stretchy material.
But, the man was kind enough to tell me to go to hancockfabrics.com, even though they're really not a part of the chain itself. I was able to find the cranberry material, and will put money in the bank within the next week and buy six yards of it.
Since I coulnd't get my red fabric, I went ahead and got the material for Une's vest. Found a really nice charcoal gray for it, lining fabric and cording details. I got enough to cover for mess ups on Treize if I make them as well.
The other escapade was finding black velvet for the sleeves and collar. I wasn't sure about the color so I checked with the girl cutting to make sure it was black. Sh agreed that it was, and cut the amount I needed. Well, I get it out into sunlight and look at it again. It was chocolate brown. The owner was kind enough to take the material back and give me a full refund, so it was alright in the end.
Got to meet a girl who worked at Hanthingy's who is a regular attendee of MTAC, last year she was part of the PVC Malice Mizer group, not Gact, but the girl, her name started with C or K... can't remember it though...
As far as patterns go, I followed one of the girls on cosplay.com's advice and looked in Vogue for a coat pattern.
V2922. It's a coat with a knotting waist and sleeve belts, and the right number of button spaces. I plan on lengthening the hem of the coat to make it into the skirt and adding one more back piece. It's an advanced pattern so i'll probably be asking mom a lot for help.

Boots

Went to Goodwill today and found a really close approximation of Lady Une's boots. I would have gotten them had they not been a size 7 1/2. I've got a fairly good clodhopper of a foot so those wouldn't fit.
They'd have been perfect, black, like my white Faye boots and needing only one incision and two sewing lines.
I'm seriously thinking about grabbing my friend Christian and seeing if he'll teach me about making custom shoes. I think that it'd definitely be worth the time and investment.
PS if anyone runs across a pair of slightly heeled (2-3 inch, slender) black boots, midcalf length, in size 81/2 to 9, please let me know. I'd be willing to wire you money to purchase them for me.

x3 I wish I had a size nine foot. I'd be able to find things in my size more easily. I wear a size eleven.
black, mid-calf. I have to go shoe hunting in the next couple of days for my boots for a costume; I'll tell you if I find a pair. that fits what you're looking for. x3

You're welcome. x3;;
Mm..Though I will check to look for boots that match what you're looking for (and knowing me, I'll probably just buy them if I find them, because I won't be able to get back out for a while. I rely on the internet for shoe-hunting. If I can find a pair, I will buy them, and you can just pay me back. XD), you might want to check cosworx.com to see if they have something similar to what you're looking for. x3;

There's an ALDO and another nifty boot place in the mall where Heartless works. I'll take a look there for you, snap some pics, and see if those'll be any help.

you guys are wonderful. I found some that would work really well but well.... I'm not wanting to shell out 200 bucks for a pair of boots to meddle with. ~_~ If all else fails, i'm gonna try to get my friend Christian, the one from the JEM group, to show me how to make them from the sole up. O.o

Lady Une is very close to being finished. I have to finish the inside of the sleeves, add the belt loops and finish the belt. And the boot covers. I'll have pictures of her up very soon.

Just like with Treize, here's a list of things that need to be completed. Keep an eye on me and bash me if I don't get these done. It HAS to be finished by 4-2-2009.
To Do: -White gloves -Sew button holes -Attach buttons -Tack down cording on epaulettes -Cast and paint belt buckle -BELT -Finish inside sleeve lining -Crevat -Boot covers
